Identificação das Potências Olímpicas dos Jogos Olímpicos de 2016 Utilizando o Conceito de Núcleo h

Resumo


Desde a criação dos Jogos Olímpicos, os meios de comunicação criam rankings para avaliar a participação dos países. Apesar de não existir um ranking oficial, o método lexicográfico é o mais utilizado. O objetivo deste estudo é apresentar uma forma alternativa para avaliar a performance dos países. O interesse aqui não é gerar um ranking final, e sim identificar as potências olímpicas, de acordo com a quantidade de vezes que um país ocupa as primeiras colocações de cada modalidade. Como a noção de “primeiras colocações” varia de acordo com o decisor, utilizou-se os conceitos de índice h e núcleo h. A metodologia foi aplicada aos Jogos Olímpicos de 2016, que apresentou um índice h igual a 5 e 5 potências olímpicas: Reino Unido, Estados Unidos, China, Rússia e Alemanha. Sua principal contribuição é considerar que as medalhas conquistadas em modalidades diferentes têm importâncias diferentes, pois há mais possibilidades de ganhar uma medalha em certas modalidades com muitas provas.
